Welcome to my WarBlog. Like the hundreds of thousands of others, I am moved to speak out by this war with Iraq. I realize I became naïve and complacent in the ‘90s. I came to believe that common sense had become one of the great constraints in the world. I came to believe that reason and dialog could be relied upon to save the day...
I lived through the Vietnam insanity and watched it wreck all those lives and the peace in the world. I watched it slowly fade to near obscurity and finally become history.

I have a son, eight months old now, and I realize that this war is going to be one of the major features of the landscape of his world for probably all of his “formative years”. This war is going to be the Vietnam he will grow up with and I dread deep in my soul the idea that he will have never known a world without war in it until we are both much older.

This probably sounds like a lot of maudlin crap. These things have been crawling around in my mind like lice and, God damn them, I’m going to scratch.
